Projects requiring specific hardware are suitable for students with opportunity to join us at the office for the whole or a part of their project.

About the Thesis

Understanding the context of a location for a mobile device at any given time  enables for opportunities to customize and tailor the user’s digital experience. With a proper context we could deliver information relevant to the user and his/her location and improve the user experience. This thesis investigates how to  get a contextual understanding of what kind of area the user is located in, based on a GPS position. Is it an area with a lot of restaurants, offices, recreational or residential area? A starting point can as an example be to use Google Places API to get closeby places. Using gathered data a model could be trained to categorise each subset of nearby places in an effective way. How to analyze this data and what conclusions can be made?

While most of us today have the processing power of doing calculations like this in our pockets we suggest to build a simple server to ease the mobile devices.
