Beskrivning
Discrete Event Simulation helps engineers analyze and improve industrial systems, but building reliable models involves substantial preparation, testing, and documentation. This thesis explores how AI can make simulation model development more efficient and accessible while improving model quality and engineering productivity.
The assignment
- Review research on AI in simulation engineering and examine modeling workflows to identify activities that could benefit from AI assistance.
- Define use cases for translating requirements into models, generating model logic and scenarios, and automating repetitive work.
- Investigate AI support for model verification, validation, and debugging.
- Design and implement one or more proof-of-concept tools using suitable AI technologies and frameworks.
- Test the proposed solutions in practical case studies, assessing efficiency, quality, usability, industrial value, and limitations.
- Produce a documented thesis report and demonstrate the results to the simulation team, including recommended practices and directions for future workflows.
Who we are looking for
- Two master's students studying production engineering, systems, control and mechatronics, supply chain management, or a related subject.
- Completion of at least one simulation course with good results is desirable.
- Strong theoretical grounding, practical experience, and a keen interest in production systems or production logistics.
- Fluency in both Swedish and English is required.
- An interest in consultancy is an advantage.
Practical details
The thesis is intended for two students and will take place at AFRY's Gothenburg office during spring 2027. Include both students' CVs in the application. Applications are assessed continuously. The advertisement states an application deadline of November 20, 2026; the source listing instead gives December 26, 2026. Contact: Niklas Palm, Team Leader Simulation, AFRY Supply Chain Management, niklas.palm@afry.com.
Förkunskapskrav
Applicants should have a master's-level background in production engineering, systems, control and mechatronics, supply chain management, or a similar field. Suitable candidates are expected to have completed simulation coursework with good results and to bring solid theoretical knowledge, practical experience, and an interest in production systems or production logistics. Fluency in Swedish and English is required; curiosity about consulting is advantageous.
