Beskrivning

Defence and aerospace organisations often manage logistics and maintenance information across disconnected tools, making lifecycle support harder to coordinate. This thesis at AFRY Defence explores how Systems Engineering can guide the requirements, architecture and development of an integrated digital logistics support platform. The aim is to build and evaluate a software prototype that improves information management and traceability.

The assignment

  • Investigate stakeholder needs and ILS workflows, and translate them into use cases and system requirements.
  • Apply Systems Engineering methods to functional decomposition, architecture design, requirements traceability, and verification and validation planning.
  • Design and implement a prototype with Python backend services, REST APIs, an SQL database and a web interface.
  • Explore data models and functionality for logistics, maintenance, configuration management, dashboards and reporting.
  • Document the methodology, requirements and architecture, demonstrating links from stakeholder needs to the implementation.
  • Evaluate the solution and propose directions for further ILS digitalisation, including the opportunities and challenges of combining Systems Engineering with agile development.

Who we are looking for

  • Master’s students in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Information Systems, Mechanical Engineering with a software focus, Applied Mathematics or Engineering Physics.
  • Preferably familiar with Systems Engineering principles, Python programming and basic SQL databases.
  • Interested in software architecture, digitalisation, and defence, aerospace or other complex technical systems.
  • Able to approach problems analytically and work in a structured way.
  • Experience in MBSE, SysML, requirements engineering, DevOps, cloud technologies, data analytics, or logistics and maintenance engineering is an advantage.

What we offer

  • Close collaboration with experienced systems engineers, software architects and defence specialists.
  • Expert guidance in Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, defence logistics, digital transformation and solution architecture.
  • Practical experience combining systems methods and software development in a defence logistics context.
  • An opportunity to build professional relationships and explore potential career paths at AFRY.
