Thesis - AI-Assisted Migration to Rust

Rust is gaining ground in backend development thanks to its performance and memory safety, while AI tools are increasingly able to support complex programming tasks. This thesis examines how AI agents and large language models can help migrate legacy software to Rust without changing its functionality. It also explores how to make the migration process more reliable and resource-efficient.

The assignment

• Migrate selected components from C/C++ or the current SIP language to Rust with AI assistance.
• Assess how well AI agents and large language models preserve the original software's functionality.
• Develop and evaluate an improved migration workflow.
• Explore ways to guide AI agents to reduce token consumption and inaccurate or fabricated code outputs.
