Beskrivning
Changes in Wi-Fi signals can reveal the presence of people without requiring them to carry a connected device. This thesis at Axis Communications explores how such sensing could help future intercoms recognise approaching visitors and detect whether someone remains near an entrance. As current intercoms do not have built-in Wi-Fi, the work will first investigate suitable hardware and access to radio measurements.
The assignment
- Identify accessible radio measurements, including the potential use of channel state information, and select an experimental platform.
- Explore hardware options such as an Axis device, an external Wi-Fi module or a Raspberry Pi-based setup.
- Develop and test presence detection for entrance environments, distinguishing movement from ongoing presence and examining false triggers.
- Build a proof of concept and evaluate what would be needed to integrate the approach into future intercom products.
Who we are looking for
- One or two master's students, or two bachelor's students, in a relevant field such as Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or Engineering Physics.
- Interest in wireless sensing, signal processing, embedded software or machine learning.
- A methodical approach to experiments and enthusiasm for practical work with hardware.
- Affiliation with a Swedish university or university college, either directly or through an exchange programme.
What we offer
- A thesis hosted by the Intercom Product SW team at Axis Communications.
- An opportunity to shape the final scope according to hardware feasibility, early experimental results and your interests and background.
- An open, friendly and collaborative working culture.
