Beskrivning
Antibody stability and suitability for manufacturing can depend on molecular complexity, formulation and exposure to stress. This thesis at BioArctic will investigate how different antibody formats respond to forced degradation, including heat, oxidation and extreme pH. The findings will help clarify developability risks and inform the selection and design of future antibody candidates.
The assignment
- Design and carry out forced degradation experiments on selected antibodies in different buffers.
- Test antibody responses to elevated temperature, oxidative conditions and pH extremes.
- Use nanoDSF to investigate thermal stability and aggregation tendencies.
- Characterize integrity and purity with CE-SDS and charge heterogeneity with cIEF.
- Measure remaining target-binding capacity using SPR and/or ELISA.
- Analyze and compare findings across antibody formats and analytical methods.
- Document experiments and build a structured database of antibody stability profiles to support future development and manufacturing decisions.
Who we are looking for
- Currently enrolled in a master's program in biotechnology, molecular biotechnology, biochemistry, biomedicine, chemical engineering, bioprocessing, protein or antibody engineering, or a related life-science field.
- Interested in protein science, analytical techniques and biopharmaceutical research.
- Laboratory experience is highly valued; familiarity with protein or antibody characterization, sample preparation or relevant analytical methods is an advantage rather than a requirement.
- Curious and keen to learn, with a careful, systematic approach to laboratory work, analysis and documentation.
- Able to take responsibility, solve problems and work both independently and alongside experienced researchers.
What we offer
- Practical experience in an industrial biopharmaceutical research setting.
- Close collaboration with scientists specializing in antibody engineering, protein characterization and biopharmaceutical development.
- Hands-on exposure to analytical technologies and workflows used in antibody discovery and developability assessment.
Practical details
Location: BioArctic, Stockholm; laboratory work is conducted on site. Preferred start: 18 January 2027. Scope: at least 30 ECTS credits, lasting one academic semester or longer depending on university requirements. Apply before 10 November 2026 with a CV, relevant university transcripts and answers to the application-form questions.
Förkunskapskrav
Applicants should be master's students in a relevant life-science or engineering discipline, with an interest in biotechnology, protein science and analytical research. They should be comfortable with experimental laboratory work and approach experiments, analysis and documentation methodically. Previous laboratory work is highly valued, while experience with protein or antibody characterization, sample preparation, nanoDSF, CE-SDS, cIEF, SPR or other biophysical and biochemical techniques is advantageous but not mandatory.
