Beskrivning

Cytiva’s Analytical Technologies R&D team in Uppsala is seeking a master’s thesis student to explore new ways of characterizing chromatography resins. The project focuses on NMR-based methods for agarose-based materials used in biopharmaceutical manufacturing. Its aim is to develop and assess measurement approaches and compare them with established characterization techniques.

The assignment

  • Explore new approaches to chromatography resin characterization through laboratory experiments using NMR and complementary analytical methods.
  • Develop and refine experimental procedures and measurement protocols.
  • Interpret experimental data and investigate relevant theoretical models.
  • Compare proposed methods with established techniques and assess their performance, robustness and suitability for resin characterization.
  • Plan, carry out and document experiments independently, following Cytiva’s policies and guidelines.
  • Communicate findings through oral presentations and a written master’s thesis.

Who we are looking for

  • Master’s student in physical chemistry, analytical chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, physics or a similar field.
  • Interest in physical chemistry, porous materials, analytical characterization, experimental method development and data analysis.
  • Experience with NMR, spectroscopy or materials characterization is beneficial.
  • Scientific programming, scripting or automated data analysis skills are additional advantages.
  • Organized and self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and solve analytical problems.
  • Strong communication and reporting skills, including confidence communicating in English; Swedish is a plus.

What we offer

  • Practical experience with advanced characterization of materials used in biopharmaceutical manufacturing.
  • Opportunities to build skills in NMR-based characterization, analytical method development, experimental design and data analysis.
  • Close collaboration with experienced scientists in an industrial research and development setting.
  • A collaborative working culture with an emphasis on continuous improvement.

Practical details

The project is based within Cytiva’s Analytical Technologies R&D team in Uppsala and is intended for one master’s thesis student. The advertisement does not specify a start date, project duration or application deadline.

Förkunskapskrav

Applicants should be pursuing a master’s degree in physical chemistry, analytical chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, physics or a related subject. They should be interested in experimental characterization and data analysis, be able to work independently and communicate effectively in English. Experience with NMR, spectroscopy, materials characterization, scientific programming, scripting or data analysis automation is advantageous, as is knowledge of Swedish.
