Master thesis: Dumpbox Optimization

Mining trucks need to carry as much ore as possible while operating within the mine’s space constraints. Their dumpboxes must also be straightforward to fill and empty and retain the load during transport. This master’s thesis at Epiroc aims to develop a new dumpbox concept that maximizes the load capacity of one of its mining trucks.

The assignment

• Develop alternative dumpbox concepts using Creo, Ansys and other simulation tools.
• Compare the concepts against design constraints such as dimensions, structural strength and manufacturability.
• Account for loading, unloading, load retention and the space available for the complete machine.
• Recommend a concept and a direction for the design of dumpboxes for future Epiroc machines.

Who we are looking for

• Two students with a background in mechanical engineering undertaking a master’s thesis together.
• Knowledge of mechanics, preferably complemented by simulation and solid mechanics.
• A thorough, persistent and open-minded approach, with an interest in collaboration.

Location: Örebro. The project is intended for two students working together. Apply through Epiroc’s career site with a CV and a short personal letter explaining your motivation.
