Beskrivning
Designing data centers for telecom core systems requires translating product resource needs, customer requirements and engineering constraints into a complete deployment architecture. This master's thesis at Ericsson explores how AI-supported decision-making can help generate, check and explain integrated designs. The study covers architectural choices as well as resilience, operations, lifecycle management and future growth.
The assignment
- Map the journey from customer needs and product sizing to architectural decisions, including dependencies between sites, PODs, vPODs, clusters, node pools, network functions and physical infrastructure.
- Explore a prototype that structures requirements, flags gaps or inconsistencies and suggests design alternatives.
- Check proposed designs using deterministic models for capacity, availability, placement, compatibility, upgrades, resilience and infrastructure constraints.
- Compare alternatives in terms of footprint, cost, operational complexity, lifecycle implications, scalability and expansion options, and document the reasoning behind decisions.
- Assess which design activities lend themselves to automation and which still require human expertise.
- Use Grünig and Kühn’s framework for complex decisions as the methodological foundation, with an agentic AI runtime coordinating specialist agents and tracking the evolving problem and its decision history.
Who we are looking for
- Master's thesis students interested in telecom core networks, cloud-native infrastructure and data center architecture.
- Interest in AI-supported engineering, decision-making, expert systems, agent delegation and complex problem-solving.
- Previous experience in these areas is welcome but not presented as mandatory.
What we offer
- An opportunity to apply technical skills and creative thinking to challenging engineering problems.
- Collaboration with an innovation-focused team working on new technical solutions.
Practical details
The project is intended for 1–2 students. The thesis can be based in Kista or Lund. No start date, project duration or application deadline is specified.
Förkunskapskrav
Interest in telecom core networks, cloud-native infrastructure, data center design, AI-assisted engineering, decision-making, expert systems, agentic delegation and complex problem-solving. Some prior experience in these areas is preferred.
