Beskrivning
Reliable antenna testing in the upper 5G frequency bands depends on controlling electromagnetic interference in the measurement environment. This thesis at Ericsson examines how antenna fixtures, robotic positioners and surrounding mechanical structures affect measurements inside an anechoic chamber. By combining material testing, full-wave simulations and laboratory experiments, the project aims to assess measurement uncertainty and recommend ways to reduce disturbances.
The assignment
- Measure the relative permittivity and dielectric loss tangent of selected materials produced by 3D printing.
- Build and validate electromagnetic simulation models for antenna fixtures and nearby mechanical structures.
- Conduct controlled laboratory tests with configurations of increasing complexity.
- Examine how material choices, geometry, separation distances, metal parts, cables, motors, chamber walls and RF absorbers affect measurements.
- Determine the impact on radiation patterns, amplitude, phase, gain, cross-polarization and measurement repeatability.
- Identify the largest sources of disturbance, assess their contribution to uncertainty and evaluate practical mitigation measures.
Who we are looking for
- Currently studying towards a master's degree in electrical engineering, engineering physics, applied physics or a related discipline.
- Interested in electromagnetics, antennas, RF engineering or electromagnetic measurement techniques.
- Familiar with the fundamentals of electromagnetic theory and antenna properties.
- Experience in electromagnetic simulation, programming, RF testing, material characterization or uncertainty analysis is beneficial.
- Analytical, methodical and curious, with the ability to work independently in a laboratory.
- Able to communicate effectively and present technical findings in English.
