Beskrivning

When autonomous robots act on AI-driven decisions, responsibility can be difficult to trace across the people and organisations involved. This thesis at Ericsson explores how identity and access management, delegation, and audit trails can enable accountable operation of autonomous mobile robots in public and semi-public spaces. The focus is on establishing the conditions for reconstructing responsibility after harm occurs, rather than deciding legal liability.

The assignment

  • Study relevant academic literature, standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct interviews with professionals in autonomous systems, cybersecurity, identity management, and compliance.
  • Evaluate requirements using documented incidents involving autonomous systems.
  • Create a requirements framework, highlight shortcomings, and suggest actionable improvements for accountable autonomy.
  • Determine which technical, organisational, and regulatory conditions allow responsibility to be reconstructed when an AI-directed autonomous mobile robot causes harm.

Who we are looking for

  • Master’s student taking courses in AI, robotics, or autonomous systems.
  • Studies or academic experience connecting law, business, and technology.
  • University-level law coursework, ideally covering the responsibilities of manufacturers or service providers.
  • Hands-on experience with qualitative methods, including expert interviews, as well as quantitative methods such as surveys and data analysis.
  • Strong written and spoken English.
  • An analytical, inquisitive, and open-minded approach, with an interest in research bridging business and technology.

What we offer

  • An opportunity to apply technical skills and creative thinking to challenging problems.
  • Collaboration with a team of innovators in an environment that encourages exploring new solutions.
