Beskrivning

This master's thesis explores an advanced power supply for future spacecraft at OHB Sweden. It covers early development, from concept definition and initial sizing to modelling and, where time permits, electronics design. The aim is to assess solutions while balancing performance, reliability, cost and manufacturability.

The assignment

  • Define the requirements specification and examine its implications for the design.
  • Compare key DC-DC converter topologies and select a suitable approach.
  • Model and simulate the concept, including transient behaviour, efficiency, start-up and electromagnetic interference.
  • Review and consolidate the component technologies needed for the solution.
  • Develop electronics designs and schematics as time permits, and carry out failure mode and effects, reliability and worst-case analyses.
  • If time permits, design and simulate a proof of concept.
  • Document the work in a thesis report.

Who we are looking for

  • Master's student in electrical or electronics engineering.
  • Good understanding of power electronics, including converter topologies, stability and components.
  • Experience with Matlab/Simulink or an equivalent piecewise-linear simulation tool such as PLECS, as well as SPICE simulations.
  • Practical familiarity with testing equipment such as power supplies, oscilloscopes and multimeters.
  • Scripting skills, for example in Python. Relevant experience may come from coursework, extracurricular projects or independent learning.

What we offer

  • Integration into the Avionics and Electrical team, with close collaboration with experienced engineers.
  • Hands-on exposure to hardware development for current and future space missions.
  • An opportunity to contribute to the Innosat avionics architecture.
  • Successful thesis work could lead to future employment in the Avionics and Electrical team.

Practical details

Location: Kista. The thesis is intended for one master's student. Start date, duration and application deadline are not specified.

Förkunskapskrav

Applicants should be master's students in electrical or electronics engineering with good knowledge of power electronics, including topologies, stability and components. Preliminary experience is expected in Matlab/Simulink or equivalent simulation tools such as PLECS, SPICE simulations, practical testing with laboratory instruments, and scripting such as Python. Experience gained through university courses, extracurricular activities or self-study is relevant.
